Nat loopback workaround

The most common problem is that your gateway rewrites the destination address of the packet to the internal server, but not the source. So, when the internal server responds it sees that the packet came from something on the local network, sends back the packet directly - and the client can't tell this is from the server, because the packet still has the internal, not the public, address on it.

Does anyone have any workarounds for the lack of NAT loopback? Edit: Per /u/CBRJack and /u/damiankw's suggestions, I created another A-Record with my domain's DNS provider (namecheap) that simply gave the LAN address of the webserver. Jun 06, 2015 · Only if the server runs on the same PC as you play on. If it runs on another PC, check if you can activate NAT loopback on your router, if not, you need a new router that does support it. This is a very old issue, that probably will not get fixed. .

I want to workaround NAT loopback in my local network, because my router doesn't support it. So I would like to have OpenDNS return my local IP when using from my home network. So it's returning 192.168.1.* for the IP when making a request from my network.

Is it correct that no more current Linksys firmwares support NAT loopback (found something about protecting yourself against DNS rebinding attacks)? Meaning, if I'm on my LAN I can never visit a network device (e.g. NAS) via DNS/ext IP, I must approach it with its local IP? If so, is there a workaround possible? E.g. changing hosts file or ... .
